What makes this program different?
UTSC Management provides broad exposure to functional business areas and quantitative study, with regular and co-op BBA routes. Official policy confirms direct entry from high school for students admitted to either route.
Co-op adds paid work terms and career preparation, but it also has academic standing requirements and additional fees. Students should compare it with Rotman Commerce and UTM Commerce based on curriculum, campus, degree, and experience—not assume all U of T business programs are the same.
UTSC is particularly relevant for GTA students who want a U of T BBA and are prepared for a quantitative curriculum and the demands of a structured co-op route.
Understand the academic threshold.
Applicants must satisfy U of T and UTSC’s current curriculum-specific requirements. The official admissions page lists the degree, current start term, co-op availability, and program prerequisites.
- Ontario diplomaComplete the OSSD with six eligible Grade 12 U/M courses.
- Prerequisite subjectsConfirm the current English and mathematics requirements on UTSC Admissions.
- Direct entryStudents can be admitted directly to regular BBA or Management Co-op.
- Co-op standingContinuing in co-op requires meeting program academic rules after admission.
Admission to co-op and remaining in co-op are separate questions. UTSC’s published policy currently uses a 2.5 CGPA good-standing threshold and describes probation/removal rules.
Choose regular or co-op deliberately.
Applicants apply through the standard Ontario university process and select the appropriate UTSC Management option. Current program codes and requirements should be confirmed during the application cycle.
- Direct-entry BBA route
- Separate co-op option
- Program-specific prerequisites
- English-language evidence if required
- Compare regular and co-op schedules
- Review co-op fees and standing rules
- Prepare for quantitative first-year work
- Compare UTSC with other U of T campuses
The U of T name is not enough to make the decision. Look closely at campus fit, commute, program structure, specialization choices, co-op expectations, and your comfort with quantitative work.
Foundation first. Direction next.
Students build a common management and economics foundation before developing functional or specialized depth.
Quantitative foundation
Economics, mathematics, management, and other foundational requirements establish the analytical base.
Functional business study
Develop accounting, finance, marketing, strategy, operations, organizational, and analytics knowledge.
Specialize and apply
Use electives, a specialist pathway, projects, and—where applicable—co-op work terms.
Regular and co-op students have access to the same required courses and electives according to UTSC’s published FAQ.
Exact specializations and degree requirements should be verified in the current calendar.
Co-op is a major differentiator.
Management Co-op integrates career preparation and paid placements into the degree.
Students can access a large research university’s clubs, events, libraries, and alumni network.
The curriculum uses applied problems and professional-skills preparation.
Scarborough’s location connects students with employers across the GTA.
Students pay additional co-op fees and must actively compete for jobs. A long commute can also materially change the day-to-day experience.
Turn the degree into a direction.
The BBA can support accounting, finance, analytics, consulting, marketing, operations, HR, technology, entrepreneurship, and graduate or professional study.
Co-op can provide meaningful evidence of skills, but employer, role, and performance matter more than the label alone.
Check professional-course requirements early if planning for CPA or another designation.
Budget the complete experience.
Budget tuition, UTSC incidental fees, co-op fees where applicable, books, transportation, housing, food, and personal expenses.
For GTA commuters, transportation time and cost deserve the same attention as tuition. Use U of T’s official fees pages for your residency and program year.
