What is Rotman Commerce?
Rotman Commerce is the University of Toronto’s undergraduate business program at the St. George campus. The BCom is offered jointly by the Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Arts & Science. Students study core business subjects while also completing Arts & Science courses and breadth requirements.
The program reports approximately 3,300 students across four years. Students begin with a common first-year foundation and, after meeting the guaranteed-admission conditions, enter one of three specialist programs: Accounting, Finance & Economics, or Management.
Rotman Commerce suits students who want a rigorous business education inside a large, academically broad university in downtown Toronto—and who are comfortable taking ownership of academics, recruiting, and campus involvement.
Requirements for Ontario high school students
Applicants apply through OUAC to the Faculty of Arts & Science at U of T’s St. George campus and select Rotman Commerce.
- Ontario Secondary School DiplomaOr an accepted equivalent.
- Six Grade 12 U/M coursesThese must include ENG4U and MCV4U.
- Competitive academic recordRotman recommends at least a mid-to-high 80s overall average across Grade 11 and 12 courses, with close attention to English and Calculus. Meeting that level does not guarantee admission.
- Supplemental ApplicationRequired for every applicant and considered alongside grades.
The official pages currently display the completed September 2026 cycle: November 7, 2025 for recommended early application, December 2, 2025 for recommended early documents, January 15, 2026 for the final application, and February 2, 2026 for final documents. These are not 2027 deadlines. Future applicants must check the official page when the next cycle is published.
Rotman says all Grade 11 and 12 U/M courses may be considered. It may prefer a single attempt at each course and encourages applicants to take courses through their day school where possible.
Grades are only part of the application.
The mandatory supplemental application uses brief written and video responses. Rotman says it is looking for academic excellence, communication, teamwork, leadership, community involvement, and a genuine interest in business.
- Written and video responses
- Completed through a platform linked from Join U of T
- Unlimited practice sessions are available
- A $51 supplemental fee was listed for the 2026 cycle
- Build a small bank of real experiences
- Practise concise answers aloud
- Explain your actions and learning—not just titles
- Answer the exact question instead of forcing a script
A strong response should sound like a thoughtful student, not a corporate press release. Use a specific situation, explain what you personally did, and finish with what changed in your thinking or behaviour.
One foundation, then three directions.
First year introduces management, economics, and university-level mathematics. To move into a Rotman Commerce specialist through the Guaranteed Admission route, students must complete at least 4.0 credits and meet the official course thresholds.
For MAT133Y1, the official threshold is 63%. Approved alternatives have different thresholds. Students can repeat each required course once. Rotman states that typically more than 90% of first-year students advance to second year.
Accounting
Focused study in financial reporting, assurance, tax, performance management, and related areas. The program states that its requirements can support progression toward CPA education.
Finance & Economics
Combines finance with economic theory and quantitative analysis for students interested in markets, institutions, investment, and economic decision-making.
Management
The broadest specialist, with optional focuses such as finance, data science, international business, leadership, marketing, and strategy.
Across the degree, students normally complete 20.0 credits, including Arts & Science breadth and upper-year requirements. Rotman says upper-year classes are capped at 55 students, with many smaller.
Downtown, broad, and self-directed.
Rotman highlights 30+ student groups, five student Houses, competitions, conferences, and community events. First-year students are automatically placed in a learning community of roughly 25–30 students.
Options include case competitions, Consult for Impact, an entrepreneurship startup program, career treks, community service learning, and employer visits.
Students may pursue semester- or year-long exchange and Summer Abroad opportunities through U of T and partner institutions.
Program-specific academic advising, a learning strategist, peer-assisted study, communications coaching, and professional-skills programming are available.
Career support exists—but students still have to use it.
Rotman Commerce offers an exclusive jobs and events portal, one-to-one career advising, employer sessions, recruiting workshops, technical-skills training, career treks, mentorship, and industry programs. It does not advertise a formal co-op sequence; students typically pursue internships independently with support from Career Services.
Figures are reported by Rotman Commerce from Class of 2024 employment data. Read them with the methodology and response information in the official report.
Common directions include accounting, financial services, consulting, technology, consumer goods, marketing, analytics, entrepreneurship, and graduate education. A program name alone does not secure a particular job; grades, skills, experience, networking, and market conditions all matter.
Check the fee structure carefully.
First-year students pay the applicable Faculty of Arts & Science tuition. Beginning in second year, Rotman Commerce uses a higher deregulated fee structure. Full-time students taking 3.0–6.0 credits are generally assessed a flat program fee; lighter course loads may be charged per course.
Exact costs vary by year, residency, college, course load, and incidental fees, so this guide intentionally does not freeze a single tuition figure. Use U of T’s official fee lookup and Student Accounts information before making a budget.
Applicants are automatically considered for several U of T awards. Some opportunities require an Awards Profile or separate application through Join U of T. Rotman also lists program-specific entrance awards, international awards, and in-course scholarships.
