01 · OVERVIEW

What makes this program different?

McGill Desautels combines a common management core with extensive choice among majors, concentrations, honours programs, minors, and interdisciplinary study. Students enter the BCom undeclared and select an area of study later.

The program is internationally diverse and based in downtown Montréal. Students can access exchange, experiential courses, consulting initiatives, student leadership, case competitions, internships found independently, and a dedicated career centre.

THE SHORT VERSION

Best suited to academically strong students who value curriculum flexibility, international exposure, Montréal, and independent career-building more than a structured co-op sequence.

02 · ADMISSION

Understand the academic threshold.

For Ontario applicants, McGill uses its calculated Top 6, including required courses. Management requires 4U English or French and 4U Calculus and Vectors.

  • Top 6At least six eligible 4U/DU/4M courses; at least four and all prerequisites must be 4U or DU.
  • LanguageA 4U core English or French course.
  • MathematicsMCV4U Calculus and Vectors.
  • Reference cutoffFor September 2025, the lowest admitted Management grades listed were 93% Top 6 and 90% mathematics.
Admission note

McGill states that past cutoffs are references only and do not guarantee future admission. Space and applicant strength can move the required grades each year.

03 · APPLICATION

For most applicants, academics drive the decision.

Standard Ontario Management applicants are not asked for a general extracurricular supplement. McGill requires grade self-reporting and an unofficial transcript, then requests any further documents through the portal.

WHAT IS CONFIRMED
  • February 1 application deadline currently listed
  • Grade self-reporting through the applicant portal
  • No general personal statement for standard Management admission
  • Extra documents considered only in specified situations
HOW TO PREPARE
  • Protect both the Top 6 and calculus grade
  • Follow both self-reporting periods
  • Submit requested documents promptly
  • Apply separately for major entrance scholarships if eligible
EverythingBusiness perspective

McGill’s process is unusually academic. Do not send unrequested extracurricular material; focus on eligible course selection, strong grades, accurate self-reporting, and every portal deadline.

04 · PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Foundation first. Direction next.

All students complete the same core, at least one program of study, a minimum of three approved experiential-learning credits, and 120 total credits.

U0 / YEAR 1

Build breadth

Students without advanced standing usually begin with foundational university courses and prerequisites.

U1

Complete the core

Choose a program of study and develop essential management, quantitative, communication, and analytical skills.

U2–U3

Customize deeply

Combine majors, concentrations, honours, minors, experiential courses, exchange, and electives within degree rules.

Desautels offers flexible combinations across areas such as accounting, economics, finance, analytics, information systems, international management, marketing, operations, organizational behaviour, retail, strategy, and sustainability.

The Honours in Investment Management has limited enrolment and a separate internal application. Other program combinations still require careful prerequisite and credit planning.

05 · EXPERIENCE

International and self-directed.

EXCHANGE

Students can study at partner institutions and pursue other international learning opportunities.

EXPERIENTIAL

Approved courses, consulting projects, fellowships, competitions, and stakeholder-based work can satisfy experiential requirements.

STUDENT LIFE

The Management Undergraduate Society supports clubs, events, conferences, and case competitions for more than 2,500 students.

CAREER CENTRE

Desautels students receive advising, recruiting resources, mentorship, workshops, and employer connections.

Planning point

The standard BCom is not built around formal co-op. Internships are usually pursued independently, making early networking, bilingual or multilingual ability, and proactive recruiting especially valuable.

06 · CAREERS

Turn the degree into a direction.

Graduates enter finance, consulting, accounting, technology, marketing, operations, entrepreneurship, and graduate study in Canada and internationally.

90%2024–25 placement within six months among reporting job seekers
$75,667reported average base salary, excluding bonuses
27%reporting graduates attending graduate school within six months

McGill’s published figures depend on reporting populations and definitions. Read them as cohort evidence, not a promise.

A Montréal education can offer access to a distinctive bilingual market. French is not an admission prerequisite for this English-language degree, but it can materially broaden local internship and employment options.

07 · COST & FINANCIAL AID

Budget the complete experience.

McGill’s 2026–27 BCom fees vary sharply by residency, citizenship, admission year, and government tuition category. The official annual-fee tables should be used for the applicant’s exact status.

IMPORTANT

Do not copy a single tuition number across Quebec residents, non-Quebec Canadians, international students, or special rate categories. Add Montréal housing, food, insurance, travel, and personal costs to the correct official fee table.

08 · EVERYTHINGBUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Who might thrive here?

A STRONG FIT IF YOU…
  • Have a very strong academic record
  • Want maximum curriculum flexibility
  • Value an international student body
  • Want to study in downtown Montréal
  • Will pursue internships independently
THINK CAREFULLY IF YOU…
  • Need formal co-op built into the degree
  • Want extracurriculars to offset lower grades at admission
  • Prefer a small or highly structured cohort
  • Do not want to plan a complex curriculum
  • Have not researched language and relocation realities
THE BOTTOM LINE

Desautels offers academic selectivity, global reach, and exceptional curriculum choice. The same flexibility rewards students who plan deliberately—and provides less built-in structure for those expecting a prescribed career path.
